WHAT IS AN EVIDENTIAL MEDIUM?

A medium is someone who can communicate with the spirit world. There are various ways a medium can help, and I will do my best to explain what mediums do and how they may support you through the grief and loss of a loved one.

The term “evidential” means that the medium uses their intuitive abilities to connect with the spirit world and share specific information about your departed loved one - details they couldn’t possibly have known otherwise. During an evidential mediumship reading, the medium connects with your loved ones on the other side to convey meaningful messages.

From Fear of the Unknown to Reverence

Mediumship involves a medium communicating with the spirit world. However, because it is linked to death, many people find mediumship unsettling. In Western culture, or even with people with strong religious beliefs, it can often be misunderstood or misrepresented.

Hollywood movies and TV shows frequently depict mediums like gypsies, or in a spooky or mysterious way, especially in horror genres. While some mediums focus on clearing homes or addressing supernatural or paranormal activity, many serve in other meaningful ways. By sharing more about mediumship here, I hope to shift the perception of it being something to fear into recognizing it as a sacred practice - a way of expressing love, finding healing, and being able to let go and move on.

The Other Side is Real

I used to feel uneasy and skeptical about mediumship, even though I had some profound experiences myself. I brushed it off as a coincidence, mostly a part of my social conditioning and the expectations of my family.

Back in July 2019, I found myself immersed in online historical research on my grandfather's family history in the Bundaberg region, in anticipation of his upcoming 90th birthday celebration. As someone who has always held a fascination for history - I even used to work within the records and archives department for the local council - this exploration led me to research my grandfather's ties to the local sugar cane industry.

During this search, I stumbled upon a website detailing the history of Fairymead House, a historic residence built by one of the region's pioneering families in the late 1880s, now a heritage-listed tourist site. While viewing the website, I came across an old family portrait of the Young family, dating back to approximately 1913.

At that moment, as my eyes fell upon the faded image, my attention fixated on the young woman positioned at the far right - Marjorie Lucia Young (born January 1897 - passed December 1971). Despite the photo's poor quality, with its washed-out hues and blurry resolution, I felt an inexplicable surge of recognition, much like unexpectedly encountering an old friend after many years apart. There was a distinct sensation, almost as if I had been gently nudged or jolted.

To add to the intrigue, a clear voice spoke in my mind: "Learn how to talk to me."

Signs from the Spirit World

Signs from the spirit world are real and they do happen. The biggest challenge lies in slowing down, adopting a more deliberate pace in life, clearing the mind, and nurturing present-moment awareness to decode the signs that come our way. If we remain ensnared in mental turmoil - worrying, overthinking, rushing, or succumbing to anger and frustration - we risk missing the universe's attempts to engage with us.

Presence, openness, and a readiness to receive insights are essential. Every sign I encounter is a miracle, a direct link to the spirit world. In witnessing these signs, I sense the presence, a guiding hand, and enveloping love - an undeniably miraculous experience indeed.

Many people say things such as, "I'm always asking for signs from the spirit world, but nothing comes my way." My response? "Then stop searching." When you ease into your daily routine, that is when Spirit is inclined to reveal signs of their presence or subtly influence your path forward.

Spirit can create so many personal moments, ensuring you are in the right place at the right time - sometimes just in time to catch their favourite song playing in a store or on the radio.

Signs can manifest during mundane daily activities like showering, doing dishes, strolling down the street, engaging in a discussion with your partner, or enduring traffic grind.

The setting doesn't need to be spectacular or glamorous for a sign to appear, yet spotting one in these everyday scenarios can certainly elevate the moment's significance.

The instances shared above are merely a handful of examples, but the possibilities are infinite.

Understanding Evidential Mediumship

After consulting a long list of mediums and psychic readers, I started training as an “evidential medium.” This type of medium provides specific, verifiable details from loved ones in Spirit, allowing the person receiving the reading to confirm the connection. Along with sharing comforting messages, this evidence reassures the living that their loved ones are still with them and there is life after death.

I had readings with seven different mediums who didn’t know me or my background. In each session, they shared astonishingly accurate details - each slightly different and unique in their own special way - and messages that brought healing and validation.

As in any profession, mediums vary in style, skill, and approach. Some pursue fame, fortune, or social media follower count, while others deeply respect mediumship as a sacred, healing practice.

As an evidential medium myself, I view it as an act of love and service.

Losing a loved one is one of life’s hardest challenges, and mediumship can offer immense comfort, helping people cope with their grief and move forward with hope.

A Continued Connection with Spirit

I have built a new relationship with Marjorie, learning to connect and communicate with her in Spirit. This ongoing bond has been a powerful part of my healing, and I now share messages with others from their loved ones on the Other Side.

During my mediumship training, and plenty of self-taught research, I began practicing readings for others and discovered two remarkable things. First, Marjorie became a guide, helping me connect with Spirit and deliver meaningful evidence and messages. She is stern and does not give me everything I ask for. She chooses to encourage me to learn and to have the inner confidence to teach myself because she knows I have it within me.

Also, despite not growing up “seeing spirits” or aiming to become a medium, it took me 40-plus years to finally realize I had this ability. The messages and evidence I have shared have brought profound healing, not only to others and their loved ones in Spirit but also to me. Each reading reinforces that our loved ones truly remain with us and that the Other Side is real.

You Are Never Alone

Do remember that your loved ones, along with Spirit guides and angels, are always supporting you and they are always around you. Just because you can't see them doesn't mean they aren't there. While others may not fully understand your desire to connect with the Other Side, know that it’s a normal and deeply human wish.
