THE REMARKABLE ENERGY HEALING OF REIKI

Shoshin Therapies - Reiki Healing Energy

One of the guiding principles of Reiki therapy is that energy emanates from every living thing. A classic example of this is when you sensed how happy someone was just by the way they lit up and room and made you feel good just from the positive vibes they had.

True, Reiki practitioners have been trained to sense more nuances and meaning in the energy fields that surround people. You may have already sensed the presence of others' life energy and you were not even aware of it.

In Reiki "life force energy" is known as a life force or universal spirit. The literal translation of this in the Japanese language is "Rei" and "Ki". This energy has four key components – emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual energy. When all are together and working in harmony, they all contribute to our good health and overall well-being.

The guiding principle of the ancient healing practice of Reiki is this: If your life force energy is low or blocked, you are more vulnerable to sickness, pain, and stress. But if your life force energy is balanced and high, you are in good health and at peace. To boost the flow of your life energy and to promote that state of balance, a trained Reiki healing practitioner serves as a source of renewed energy, passing it from their body, through their palms, and through your body.

The Health Benefits of Reiki Therapy

Reiki practitioners believe that Reiki energy produces significant health benefits, such as promoting a better quality of sleep, reducing the symptoms of some health conditions, and lowering levels of cortisol, the infamous stress hormone, by slowing your heart rate and lowering blood pressure. Many people who have received Reiki healing can confirm the benefits of the type of alternative healing treatment.

Like many other forms of alternative or complementary healing therapies, Reiki has tended to have limited scientific and medical studies devoted to its understanding. Some historical studies have suggested Reiki healing can provide some healing when used to treat mental conditions such as anxiety and depression.

It is widely accepted that Reiki may be beneficial as an additional healing tool in conjunction with modern Western medical treatments.

What to Expect During a Reiki Therapy Session

Though a Reiki session can be administered anywhere at any time, most practitioners work in offices, health clinics, day spas, or their private homes. Lighting is kept low and natural, and your practitioner may play soft music and burn a candle, depending upon their approach to healing. A Reiki healing session typically lasts for 60 or 90 minutes. I have seen Reiki sessions offered for 10 minutes, but I would question the legitimacy of these short sessions. During a healing, you will remain fully clothed and sit or lie down while the practitioner works with your energy.

Reiki practitioners conduct a treatment session by passing their hands, and palms down, over and around your body to sweep or cleanse away your negative energy. This also helps them find areas of energy imbalance that need particular attention, though your whole body will be treated throughout your session. Practitioners rely on the energy to flow through them to where it is most needed by your body.

The Reiki therapist then places their hands on or above you in a series of non-intrusive, stationary positions that usually cover the entire body. Some Reiki practitioners hold their hands at your seven chakras or energy wheels. Other practitioners work with a series of set hand positions. Hands are usually held at each spot for several minutes or until the healer senses that the flow of energy is moving as it should. The structure of a Reiki healing session will be unique to your Reiki healer.

Reiki sessions vary depending on your needs, as well as the preferences of your chosen practitioner. For example, some Reiki therapists may use crystals, which I often do, because the crystals have healing energy qualities of their own. Crystals act as tools to interact and enhance the human energy field.

During a Reiki session, it is quite common for the client to experience feelings of dizziness, warmth, relaxation, tenderness, or even body tingles. Or nothing at all may be felt. There is no right or wrong or expectation when it comes to Reiki. However, taking time out a the end of a session to refocus and take a few sips of water is always beneficial.

You and your Reiki practitioner will decide together how many more sessions are needed.

Side Effects of Reiki Therapy

Reiki is non-invasive and often is conducted hands-free, so there are very few side effects to be worried about after a treatment. That said, some people may, on occasion, find themselves feeling tired, dizzy, a little weak in their limbs, or even have a headache. This is simply the bad or negative energy flowing through and out of your body. These types of sensations will pass in a short time.

You may experience a Reiki sensation known as "phantom hands" during your healing session, which is the feeling the healer's hands are on or over one part of your body, like your head, when their hands are actually over a different place, like your legs. You may also feel as though multiple hands are working on your body at one time. This is a reported, but unexplained, phenomenon and is in no way harmful.
