HOW TO RELAX FOR BETTER CONNECTION WITH YOUR BODY

How to Relax Your Body

Relaxation and being able to relax is an important ability in you being able to fully inhabit all of your body. You won't be able to sense what your body is doing if you are tense or stressed out. However, the frantic pace of all the hustle and bustle we have with life today compels many of us to live out of sync with ourselves. You may find it difficult to let go of your everyday cares and anxieties if you wish to connect with your body more and open yourself up to more emotion and experience. The following is a great little way anyone can relax more and begin to develop a better connection with their body today.

Understanding the Importance of Relaxation

When you find yourself in those times with much tension and stress, it is best to give yourself five to ten minutes of unwinding and soothing time before you start this relaxation exercise.

The reason for this is that we want to take your attention and focus out of your head and put it back into your body.

The Easy Relaxation Technique: Step-by-Step Guide

Remove your shoes and undo or remove any pieces of clothing that limit mobility or restrict breathing, such as belts, ties, and tight buttons.

Lie on the floor (or your bed) with your arms at your sides and your legs outstretched a comfortable distance apart.

Slowly close your eyes.

Feel your body supported underneath you. Slow down and deepen your breathing until you are inhaling and exhaling in a gentle rhythm

Working your way up to your body, we want to now tense and relax each area of your body in succession.

Start with your feet. Lift both feet a little bit off the floor. Tense both feet, hold them there for a few seconds, then relax and lower them.

Repeat the process with your calves, thighs, buttocks, pelvic floor, belly, chest, arms, and hands.

Raise your arms above your shoulders and hold them there for a few seconds before relaxing them.

Now squeeze your face tight, like you are trying to compress it all into your nose. Hold that tension for a few seconds. Now relax your face.

Slowly inhale your breath. As you exhale, feel your body soften and dissolve beneath you.

Imagine yourself in a boat, floating on a large body of water. Feel the boat gently rocking from side to side. Listen to the sound of water lapping against the sides of the boat.

As you glide downstream on the current, imagine the warm feeling of the sun on your skin.

You are now at the end of this relaxation exercise. Slowly open your eyes and gradually return to the room.

Continue to lay down for a few moments before carefully rising.
